Book review: The girls

The Girls by Emma Cline

Obsessed immediately. I knew within the first 20 pages this would be a 5 star book. Cline’s writing is so immersive, I feel like I am absorbed into another world.

For the girls that feel like they aren’t great at anything and look to other girls for validation. The girls that want to fit in, but feel it’s only possible with conditions. For the girls with pick me moms. For the neglected girls.

This book feels like it was written for me.

I made very few notes while reading, but tabbed the crap out of this book. Almost every other page. So many rich lines and impressive descriptions. This is the authors best work for sure.

Even the adult Evie scenes were amazing, in fact I almost preferred them, retrospective and looking at this new girl as a shadow of who she was.

This is easily a book you can binge in a day or two. Except I wanted to savor it, so I kept making myself put it down, but it was all I was thinking about.

I had so many questions, so many thoughts along the way. I will leave those out as they are somewhat spoilery.

I see this being an all time favorite, but it will need to simmer to make sure it has lasting impact.

5/5
