Intermezzo by Sally Rooney
This book grew on me. At first I hated Peter and loved Ivan. Then at some point, it swapped.
The complexity of these characters is unmatched, and even the side characters were so interesting I just wanted more.
The heartbreak and angst is almost too much to handle and she expertly shows how complicated sibling relationships run. The flipping and back and forth of who’s responsible, who’s empathetic, and how they let each other down. I don’t see many books where the front focus is the sibling dynamic and now I need more of this.
I already want to reread, which means it’s an automatic 5 star for me, I don’t really reread much. Probably my favorite Sally Rooney book to date. It had a bit more going on than normal people and way better than conversations with friends — more introspective and less political. Still political, all reading is.
