Book Review: On Writing – CS Lewis

There was a few take aways from this book:

-Use the simplest language

-writing for children doesn’t mean talking down, it’s just another form, maybe the best way to tell your specific story if that’s where instinct is leading you

But other than that, this book is a self-indulgent pile of garbage. There’s a whole section at the end for writers he likes, there’s a Christianity section, a part where he goes off about how animal farm is better than 1984 because of 1984s overly gratuitous sex (skipping over the fact that animal farm is harder to get into and that’s why it’s less popular, because it’s a metaphor, the entire thing, so it’s not as easy to just pick up and get all the nuances).

Also there’s a real special part where he says all modern books should be thrown in the fire after reading once — meanwhile he had previously written that rereading is the key to understanding.

I would skip this, I think there are better options (bird by bird is one of my favorites)
