This was good, but heavy.
It also didn’t really transport me, I couldn’t really get a sense of time or place so sometimes things would confuse me and pull me out of the story.
The tone was very serious and sometimes I wished for a bit of another character to have a some relief (and I love dark stories, but this was very solitary).
Probably the biggest let down was the lack of dialogue, since I definitely felt the most connected to the MC when he was talking to someone else and not constantly thinking the same things. There was a bit of repetition that could have been removed to make the story stronger and have a bit more of a punch rather than feeling as much weight and getting a bit tired of it
Things like the day a child died, how to kill a kid when talking about abuse can sound really powerful, but when it’s used 10 times, it loses some of the oomfp.
But the emotions are high in this book I actually kept thinking of supernatural fanfic (Kyle and Jude reminding me of Dean and Sam). Also fuck their dad, holy shit, I hate him.
Overall did like this, I read it in a single sitting!
